Fall Tournament Rules
The October Tournament will be a Ryder Cup style match play event. Two teams representing the North and South of Barrington will play each other for the Team Trophy. There will be 3 six hole matches worth 1 point each. The first 2 matches will be singles and the third match will be best ball teams. In order to have a competitive tournament, players will receive strokes in their matches based upon their GHIN handicap. All of the scorecards will be marked with the strokes assigned to each match.
- Players in flights 1 to 4 will play from BLUE tees and flights 5 to 8 will play WHITE tees. Players in the first 4 groups can play from the White tees if 3 out of the 4 players agree to play from those tees.
- It is a match play format, so opposing players are allowed to give a putt.
- You are allowed to lift, clean, and place your ball in the fairway ONLY, all balls out of the fairway must be played as they lie.
- Balls out of play are treated as a lateral hazard, with a one stroke penalty and drop on line of flight of where the ball crossed the hazard line. Please check with the opposing team to confirm that they agree with the drop location. We will allow a drop far enough from the hazard line to get a full swing at the ball, even if it is more than 2 club lengths. Out of bounds on a hole with white stakes is stroke and distance, you must re-tee and hit 3.
- The maximum score on a hole is DOUBLE PAR. If one player is at double par and the other is over a double par, the hole is a TIE. For example, an 8 does not beat a 9 on a par 4 hole.
- Each match is worth ONE point, regardless of how many holes are won.
- There are a total of 5 points from each foursome. Ties receive 1/2 point each.
- If there are any questions regarding a ruling, just play out the hole and request a ruling after the round. All decisions by the Rules Committee are final.
- Please confirm your point totals with the opposing team and then provide your point totals to the official scorer at the end of the round. Keep the information to yourself to add to the suspense of the final outcome.
- There will be closest to the pin prizes for all 5 par threes for the men and long drive is on hole #7.
Women’s Fall Tournament Rules
- The women will play a 9 hole 2 person scramble.
- The format will be match play, with 1 point for each hole, 1/2 point for ties.
- The winner of the match will be first team scoring 5 points, which will score 1 point for the overall team total.
- All players will hit from the RED tees.
- The team winner will be the one who wins the most matches. Ties will score 1/2 point.
- There will be prizes for closet to the pin on all three par 3’s for the women. Long drive is on hole #5.
*** Please Note that the Men’s and Women’s events are separate and the points will not be added together. It is possible for one team to win the Men’s event and the other team to win the Women’s event.***
Spring Tournament Rules
Women’s Long Drive is #5, Men’s is #11
Closest to the pin Men & Women separate awards on Hole #8
Men’s Division Rules
The event is a SCRAMBLE, all four players hit and then select the best ball. All four players then hit from that spot.
- All golfers will tee off from the BLUE tees on their first hole. If you get a par (or worse) on the hole, you move up one set of tees to the WHITE tees, if you birdie the hole you move back one set of tees to the GOLD. You repeat this process on each hole. For example, if you have two pars in a row and you would move up to the RED ladies tee, then you birdie you move back one tee to the WHITE. You will never move more than one tee box and the only time you will play the same set of tees is when you birdie and you’re already back at the GOLD tees or you par and you’re already at the REDS. Bogey or double bogey you still only move up one tee box, for eagle move one back.
- You must use each player’s drive at least THREE (3) times. The captain will be responsible for keeping track. If you haven’t used each players drive you must use them on the final holes regardless of how bad the position.
- You are allowed one club length from the selected ball but you CAN NOT change the type of lie. For example, you cannot use the club length to move from rough to fairway, from in a bunker to the grass, from in a hazard to out of the hazard, from the fringe to the green, etc. Due to the lack of grass in many areas, players are allowed to set the ball down on any piece of grass available.
- No GIMMES, do-overs, or mulligans. This is a tournament, ALL putts must be in the hole. If someone taps away the ball and says “that’s good”, it is the duty of the captain to set the ball back down and knock it in the hole, no matter how short the putt. Once you start giving putts, the distance gets longer and longer, so we putt EVERYTHING.
- The first group to play a par 3 will mark closest to the pin on that hole. There is a CTP for all par 3’s (5 total). There are separate CTP for men and Women on hole #8. All the other holes are either men or women, whoever is closest. Obviously, you must be on the green, not just closest to the hole.
- There is a Women’s and Men’s long drive – Hole #7 for Men, Hole # 5 for women. Long drive MUST be in the fairway. It is furthest drive from tee, not closest to hole. One of the issues we have with this format is that teams will be on different tees when they reach #7. To solve this issue, we will have a re-set on #7 tee – no matter what tee you were playing from, you move to the WHITE tees. So all players will tee off from the white tees that hole. You will start the sequence over from there, moving up or back from the white tees depending on your score on #7, regardless of what tee you were on for hole #6.
- In the event of a tie for first place, we will be a match of cards. The first team to win a hole, starting with a hole drawn at random.
- There will be a trophy for 1st place. Teams will also be playing to stay out of last place, so keep an accurate score even if you feel like you’re out of contention for the top prize. There is a plaque for the winning team that will have the team picture on it and it will be hung in the Manor House.
- The Last place team captain will receive the “Captain Loser” Elvis Gnome, which will be passed on each year to the losing captain.
- There is NO max score on a hole, all scores count, including bogey or double bogey.
